How WAVAX ERC-20 webhooks work

Avalanche C-Chain produces about one block per second. Register an address once and Chainhook pushes each confirmed transfer after 20 blocks, instead of you polling an RPC per address.

  1. Register the address

    Create a webhook with network: "avalanche", type: "token" and the address you want to watch. The signing secret is returned once.

  2. Chainhook waits for confirmations

    Every Avalanche C-Chain block is scanned. A matching WAVAX transfer is held until it is 20 blocks deep, about 20 seconds.

  3. Your endpoint gets a signed POST

    A transfer.detected event arrives with an X-Webhook-Signature header. Failed attempts are retried automatically, up to 3 attempts in total, waiting 1 minute, then 5 minutes between attempts.

Verify the signature

X-Webhook-Signature is a hex HMAC-SHA256 of the raw body, keyed with your webhook's secret. Reject any request where it doesn't match.

Crediting WAVAX deposits safely

A wrapped asset

Wrapped AVAX (WAVAX) is a wrapped ERC-20 token that tracks another asset on Avalanche C-Chain. Chainhook detects it as a token, separately from any native coin on the network.

Chainhook watches 0xb31f66aa3c1e785363f0875a1b74e27b85fd66c7. Versions of WAVAX bridged to Avalanche C-Chain through other routes are separate tokens and are not reported.

WAVAX on Avalanche C-Chain uses 18 decimals. Credit the amount string, or scale amount_raw by decimals; never parse amounts as floating-point numbers.
